Why My Prices Are What They Are
“Whoa! That’s a lot!”
I hear that sometimes — and I totally get it. Some of my pieces may feel like a splurge at first glance. But I want to let you in on the heart behind it all. I’m not here to upsell or convince — just to be open with you about why my jewelry costs what it does, and what you’re really investing in when you support Wild Fern.
The Factors:
High Quality Metals: I use high-quality metals like .925 sterling silver, brass, gold fill, and sometimes pure gold — and I’m always mindful about where I source them. Metal prices rise and fall with the market, so my pricing sometimes shifts to reflect that. But I promise: I’ll always be transparent and fair.
One-of-a-Kind Stones: I’m pretty picky when it comes to stones — in the best way. I source from small lapidary businesses and local lapidary artists whenever possible. That means you’re getting something truly unique, and supporting a whole network of other small makers. Stone prices vary depending on quality, rarity, and how they’re cut, so they directly influence the cost of each piece.
Handmade, Start to Finish: Every piece is made by me, by hand — from cutting and sawing to soldering and finishing. It’s detailed, time-intensive work, and no two pieces are ever exactly the same. This isn’t fast fashion or mass production — it’s slow-crafted, small-batch jewelry made with love, intention, and a lot of heart.
Behind-the-Scene Costs: The cost of a piece also includes things like shipping materials, studio tools, eco-conscious packaging, and other everyday business expenses. These things aren’t glamorous, but they’re essential for keeping Wild Fern running sustainably and responsibly.
Real Overhead, Real Life : Like most small business owners, I wear all the hats — maker, photographer, customer service, shipper, marketer, accountant, and more. Supporting this business helps cover studio rent, utilities, supplies, and the cost of simply being able to keep doing what I love.
Handmade Craftsmanship: Imagine these hands crafting each piece from scratch, every tiny detail meticulously hand-sawed. It's not machine-made; it's personal, unique, and precise. That's the Wild Fern touch.
What You’re Really Investing In
A Future Heirloom: My pieces are meant to last — and to hold meaning. They’re designed to be worn, loved, and maybe even passed down one day. This is jewelry with story and soul.
A Connection: When you support Wild Fern, you’re not just buying jewelry — you’re becoming part of a little community. I love connecting with my customers, hearing your stories, and creating something that feels personal.
Supporting a Real Person (Hi, I’m Laura) When you buy from Wild Fern Jewelry, you’re supporting a small, woman-owned business — not a factory, not a warehouse, not a faceless brand. You’re helping me keep this dream alive — and I don’t take that lightly.
I’m not just a maker — I’m also a proud supporter of handmade goods myself. I know the joy of holding something that was made with care and intention, and I love knowing the story behind each piece I bring into my life. Supporting fellow artists fills my heart, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to know that my purchases help someone else keep creating.
Making it Easier: If a piece is calling to you but you need a little help, I offer Shop Pay at checkout — so you can break up your purchase into interest-free payments.
And if it’s love at first sight but just out of reach, I get it. When you join my email community, you’ll receive 10% off your first order — no pressure, just a little thank you for being here.
My goal is to keep Wild Fern as accessible as possible, while still honoring the time, care, and heart that goes into each piece.
